Painting on Cardboard

This is Clarice.

Trying out a new surface: Cardboard.
Picasso did it, http://www.wikiart.org/en/pablo-picasso/embrace-1900 and so did Miro, Vuillard, Toulouse-Lautrec and Degas, along with many others.

I love the texture of the cardboard. And of course I had to use my Perfect Portrait mix. It's a wonderful skin color. Every color I used in this painting was mixed with a little PP. I heart acrylics.

Flowers in Vase with Perfect Portrait

This still life from my imagination, was painted with the color I created for the Matisse Derivan and Jerrry's Artarama "Create Your Own Color" contest. The background was completely covered with Perfect Portrait (the name I gave my color) and used in the flowers as well. You can purchase Matisse Derivan acrylic paints and mediums at Jerry's Artarama.

Matisse Derivan Create Your Own Color contest

Hey everyone! I entered the Matisse Derivan Create Your Own Color contest over at JerrysArtarama and the voting is taking place now through June 2nd. If you like the color I created, I would love to have your vote.

Please click here, then scroll down to Karen Kay, and click vote. There are some beautiful colors there created by different artists, so enjoy the eye candy and let me know what you think of my color.

Here is the work that inspired my color but you'll have to click on the link to see the color I made from this painting. Take a look around JerrysArtarama while you're there and check out the Matisse paints, they are awesome!

Perfect Pair of Pears

Perfect pair of pears. I love pears. The real juicy ones that dribble sweet pear juice down your chin when you bite into them. Another 4x6 on watercolor paper. You can purchase this original work here.

Flowers in Pitcher, original mixed media painting

More flowers in a pitcher. This one was done with ink washes and graphite and a smidge of gouache. Loving the 4x6 size. On watercolor paper. You can purchase the original here.

Looks great in a frame I purchased half price at Hobby Lobby!

4x6 art - Flowers in Vases

4x6 art. I love this size. It's quick, easy and gets you ready for a larger painting. But these quick studies are works of art on their own. Place in a standard photo frame and you have instant home decor. Very cool. This one is pastel and ink on paper.

Flowers in Pitcher

I just finished this painting and Shelby has declared it her favorite so far. She said it looked "Frenchy". Shelby has been immersing herself in the French language and culture through Rosetta Stone, so I take that as a compliment. This is a 4x6 gouache and ink painting on Langton Prestige paper.

Valentines Day 2014

Hard to believe Christmas and New Years flew by so fast. I always ask myself, "Where did the time go"? But I know where it went. Time marches on, it does not stop for anyone and here's the thing, you can never go back. Whatever you said or whatever you did last year, remains the same. Forever.

So this year, and not just on Valentines Day, spread the love around. Give your love freely and to everyone, even those who "don't deserve it". Because giving love is something you won't regret doing. Ever.

This original piece is available in my etsy shop here.
